Ooty (short for Udhagamandalam) is a tourist town in the Tamil Nadu state of southern India, in the Western Ghats mountains. Established as a summer resort for the British Raj, it maintains a working steam railway line. Stone House, a 19th-century home, and St. Stephen 's Church, circa-1829, are other examples of its colonial history. On the slopes of Doddabetta Peak lies the 55-acre Government Botanical Garden.
